CTL partner news – Garland Logistics

E-commerce shipments increase 7% during sales and Christmas season compared to 2020/2021

Lisbon, 31 January 2022 – Following exponential growth during the Covid pandemic, particularly during the two lockdowns decreed in Portugal, Garland Logistics – a Garland Group company operating in the logistics area, inclusive of storage and e-commerce, as well as multiple value added and distribution services – recorded 23,650 e-commerce shipping orders between 1st November last year and 21st January this year. This period of sales, which includes Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the increased trade because of Christmas, resulted in growth of 7% compared to the same period in 2020/21, with the company continuing to increase its business in this sector.

E-commerce is one of the main objectives of growth

At the moment, Garland operates over 100,000 sq metres of logistic warehousing of which 22,400 sq metres is exclusively used for unit picking, where e-commerce is included, spread between Cascais, Aveiro, Vila Nova de Gaia and Maia. In July of 2022 Garland Logistics will complete a further multipurpose warehouse of 40,000 sq metres. With a customer portfolio in e-commerce where brand leaders in fashion predominate, e-commerce will continue to be one of the main objectives of growth during 2022 and 2023, where Garland is already one of the main players in the national market. In 2021, the number of e-commerce shipments increased 60% year-on-year. Growth was also recorded in 2020, with an increase of 13% compared to 2019. Unit picking activities represented a weight of 26% for Garland Logistics in 2021 and the company invoiced 17% more in this business area year-on-year.

“Our goal for this year is to make the service even more streamlined, with shorter preparation times and greater flexibility in deliveries to the final customer. Efficient processing of returns is also becoming increasingly important in this area, where the aim is to maximise satisfaction among final customers and minimise costs to the seller”, according to Ricardo Sousa Costa, a member of the board of directors of the Garland Group and CEO of Garland Logistics.
