CTL sets up its own software service provider
Acquisition of IT platform from previous software supplier
Cargo Trans Logistik AG (CTL) has laid a strategic milestone for the future and acquired all rights to its central IT platform and the associated source code from its previous software supplier Thalmaier Logistik und EDV Dienstleistungs GmbH. At the same time, CTL founded the new subsidiary SoftWard GmbH. This positions CTL as one of the few general cargo cooperations to develop its software in-house and provide its own IT services.
SoftWard GmbH takes over IT services for the general cargo network
‘With the founding of SoftWard GmbH, we are taking our network to a new level: in the future, our system partners will not only benefit from a comprehensive HUB network for the production of their groupage shipments, but also from comprehensive digital solutions – a real competitive advantage in the field of groupage cooperations’ explains CTL CEO Francesco De Lauso. The new subsidiary is based on the acquired IT platform, which offers a variety of functions. As a central data hub it includes among other things status reporting, billing, warehouse control functions, internal retroactive billing and the partner portal.
Chief developer of the solution joins CTL team
The acquisition also reduces the dependence on external IT service providers. The acquisition of the source code not only offers CTL investment security, but also the opportunity to further optimise operations and integrate IT services internally in the long term. ‘In addition to the further development of our portal and the introduction of innovative solutions and AI applications, a particular focus will be on IT security management’ explains De Lauso. Guido Söffker, member of the board and CIO of CTL, will take over the management of SoftWard GmbH. In addition, chief developer Thomas Wendler will join the CTL IT team.
Win-win situation through customised IT solutions
SoftWard GmbH is scheduled to start operations on 1st of January 2025. The aim is also to further strengthen the CTL network and its partners. ‘With over 30 years of experience in the logistics sector we know exactly what freight forwarders and shippers need. This know-how will be incorporated into the further development of the solution’ explains De Lauso. The groupage cooperation aims to make its partners more sustainable and efficient by providing them with customised and optimised IT solutions at transparent costs, as well as supporting them on their journey into the digital future.
CTL also intends to leverage technological synergies through strategic partnerships and collaborations with other companies. This is supported by the targeted recruitment and retention of a highly qualified team. ‘The acquisition of Thalmaier Software and the founding of SoftWard GmbH not only represent strategic progress, but also offers a win-win situation for the entire CTL network and all parties involved’ summarises Guido Söffker, CIO and new managing director of SoftWard.
