Challenge of Logistics 4.0 – the modern logistics center of our partner Kontinent Spedition
Exactly one year ago, just in time for the start of 2024, our partner, Kontinent Spedition GmbH, opened a state-of-the-art logistics center in Jena. The 31,500-square-meter, multi-use center was built along the strategically located A4 in the Bollberg industrial park near Stadtroda, close to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz junction. Kontinent Spedition aims to set new standards for industry, trade, and e-commerce in the Saale-Holzland district and the greater Jena area.
Sustainability and Modern Infrastructure
The logistics property is a Level 40 efficiency building and impresses with its climate-friendliness and energy-efficient technologies. Equipped with a heat pump heating system, a solar energy system, and five charging stations for electric trucks and cars, it offers forward-looking solutions for the logistics industry.
Capacity and Digital Networking
With 22,000 pallet spaces, 11,000 square meters of block storage space, and 5,000 square meters for value added services, the logistics center is ideally equipped to meet growing customer demands. A total of 33 gates, designed for the use of driverless transport systems (DTS), as well as the latest software, ensure intelligent networking of technology and processes – laying the foundation for further digitalization in logistics 4.0.
AutoStore – AI Meets Efficiency
One highlight of the multi-use center is the AI-controlled AutoStore, an automatic storage and retrieval system. The system consists of grids (grid system), ports (workstations), 60,000 bins (AutoStore containers, which offer up to 120,000 storage locations), and robots that can access any bin in four movement directions in the shortest possible time. With this high storage density in a minimal area, the AutoStore represents an effective solution for the evolution of Logistics 4.0.
